Ways to Control Hunger: Healthy Appetite Control

Controlling your hunger so you can lose weight: As simple as eating the right food, timing and healthy appetite control

“A good meal ought to begin with hunger.” ~ French Proverb

Isn’t it obvious? Of course you must be hungry to eat. But is your hunger real? Sometimes it’s hard to distinguish whether you’re feeling true hunger or a craving. Or eating because you have nothing better to do. And if you’re munching all day long, how do you know when you’re actually hungry?

That’s the way of the world now—snacking all day, eating to relieve boredom or occasional stress, keeping food handy to munch on at will. You know you should eat only when you feel hungry, especially if you’re trying to lose weight. We’ve got ways to help you with that. In a bit, we’ll talk about how products that help control your appetite can help.*†

Isn’t it ironic there are foods you can eat and drink to help control your hunger?

You may already know that drinking water throughout the day not only hydrates you but also helps you feel full.  If you’re not much of a water drinker you can try green tea—unsweetened or only slightly sweetened with honey or natural sugar. And tea is a great source of antioxidants.

As for food, fiber is king when you’re striving for a healthy weight. You can’t eat too many vegetables or fruits. Combine them with smoothies containing yogurt and soy milk and you’re also getting healthy protein.

Which brings us to nuts. Walnuts offer the most omega-3 fatty acids and are high in antioxidants. Almonds, pistachios, hazelnuts and Brazil nuts are also great choices.

When you eat cheese or nuts with your fruit, the protein helps control blood sugar spikes that can come from eating sugar, natural or otherwise. Preventing spikes and crashes can curb food cravings. In addition, your body digests protein at a slower rate, which helps you to feel full for a longer time.

Don’t eat all day but don’t starve yourself, either, even when you’re taking a product to help control your appetite . Eat when you are hungry. If you’re still hungry 20 minutes after you’ve eaten, by all means, feed your hunger with something healthy. *†

Two pieces of advice we cannot emphasize enough:

1) Don’t consume sugary drinks all day

2) Don’t snack all day, especially on sweets.

Stop eating when you start feeling full. It can take up to 20 minutes to feel full. Give your body time to digest and time to tell you when you’re genuinely hungry.

Don’t eat distractedly, multi-tasking as you eat. If cravings are bothering you, find a healthy distraction such as exercise or playing music.

We’ve already surprised you with the news that some foods help suppress your appetite. Here’s another surprise: While you already know that cravings don’t last (that’s why they’re called cravings), did you know you could stop the habit of having and giving into cravings?

This is wonderful to know because it means that products that help you control your appetite can  help you change your eating and snacking habits so you don’t need to take them indefinitely. You may only need to take them for weeks or months to  change your eating and snacking habits and return to “normal” –that state of being when a meal satisfies you until your next meal.
